wits and nuts

While that I am a foodie, I am not much a moviehouse bug.  I have my "wish to see" films but not just because of lack of time, but I only watch selected films in the cinema.  At home are original and pirated (ssssshh... :D) DVDs in queue to be savored whenever I get the chance.

What does it take to make me watch in the cinema?  Not in the order of significance:  

*The film would be best appreciated in wider screen (Spiderman, Shrek on weekend; I saw Potter series only through DVD.) ;
*I am watching with a group of friends, that is when our schedules met (once in a blue moon) that we catched Sukob, The Omen both in last full shows;
*When we are on out-of-town assignments and there's none left (if we are get used to the rest) to unwind.  So, we catched Feng Shui in Ayala Mall, Cebu in last full show and cowardly went back to the hotel after, yehehe, and Kung ako na lang Sana (Sharon-Aga tandem) in weekend.; and
*Wala lang (just because).  I forgot the title of this trying to be suspense-horror film that Rhea and I catched in Greenbelt last year while picnicing inside with much Wendy's bites.

These are the most recent films that I watched the past months:

Enchanted:  After Spiderman 3, this is the most current film that I catched in the cinema.  I was torn between One More Chance and this one.  I opted to see this since I am not a John Lloyd-Bea person (no offense to their supporters).  But I am hearing good things about this latest flick and I am likely to try to catch this next.  At home or in cinema - I don't know yet.  Whatcha think? :D

Enchanted is surprisingly beautiful and entertaining.  I admire the wits of patching the gap between the cruel world and fairy tale dispositions in a far away land of Andalasia.  Most of the credits go to Princess Giselle (played by Amy Adams).  She so fits the role!  I will never forget the cliche of true love's first kiss, the habit of falling when someone is there to catch you, and the statement, "where did you send her?... in that place where there is no happy ever after."

And oh!  The chipmunks are so cute!  

This movie opened on November 21.  Be sure to catch this. :D

Art School Confidential:  This is a controversial film released in 2006.  I got to see this at home sometime in May this year at 1:00 AM.  I was so awake knowing the harsh truth of fine arts bugs.  The two-faced professors and classmates.  The talent and good attitude are not passports to popularity and good future as an artist.  It must have been so hard to be Pablo Picasso.  

The ending was unexpected though.  It was like an open plot that lets you think of many possibilities.  Would you believe that I watched this again after a 10-minute break from my first see?  And after the second see, I did some contemplation till I was reminded by sunrise that I haven't got to sleep yet, 6:00 AM already. :D  This flick really captured my interest.  Maybe it is largely because my profession is way far to the Fine Arts arena.

Chocolat:  This was released in 2000 (I got to see after 7 years!) which was based on a 1999 novel.  I love the setting, the characters, the theme, everything.  This was filmed in a tiny village in France, which is highly protected from modernization by its Mayor.  The opening of a chocolaterie at the time of lent must have been really sinful at first  glance.  In this film, the power of the church is clearly presented.  Unbelievable but the homilies were also subjected to approval of the Mayor. :D

I have a sweet tooth and I so loved the idea of how the story of chocolates can get through with some hardships and unreasonableness.  In the end, the villagers welcomed foreign ideas and people.  Righteousness is not limited to how many times you abide with the rules or "what you should do or not", but also embraces risk-taking of new ideas and culture.

But vaguely, the temptation represented by chocolates is sinfully delicious.  At the end of the day, it is your call.
